Emanuel Vidović in the legacy of Andro Vid Mihičić
Having created a valuable collection of art during his long life, made up mostly of works donated by the artists themselves, his friends and colleagues, as also an abundant collection of manuscripts, diaries and letters, in 1988 Mihičić generously donated them to his native soil as a legacy for future generations of islanders.
Only or as many as seven paintings and drawings by Vidović, out of seventeen which Vidović donated, found their place in the collection named after its donor: The Collection of Croatian Masters of Andro Vid Mihičić. Paintings were created over the long period of time from 1916 to 1953, on various themes – from charcoal drawings of Camerlengo fortress in Trogir, through still life to landscapes and panoramas made in combined technique (mostly oil and tempera) on paper. Their value and place in Vidović's abundant works (Mihičić mentions in his notes around 400 to 600 paintings which were collected by Vidović's son Slavan) would be possible to discuss about only in the context of a comprehensive art-historical analysis of Vidović's work in general.
While watching Vidović’s ''Countryside motif'', which is probably the very painting Mihičić received from the artist three months before he passed away, let us remember the words Mihičić wrote in his diary on June 1, 1953, the day Vidović died:
''Pax tibi magister et bone amice!''
