Museum Night 2010. - Souvenirs Collectors
Museum Night, a great culture manifestation in which more and more Croatian museums participate every year, this year took place on Friday, January 29. “Souvenirs Collectors” represented a central event of the Museum Night in Lošinj, where the exhibits which “tell a story”, brought by the visitors themselves, had been shown.
These are the items which people keep regardless of their material value, in memory of some person or event and they come in all types – old photographs or postcards, eyeglasses, watches, parts of jewellery or clothes, dishes and cutlery, paintings, sculptures, travel souvenirs etc. They are a part of personal or family identity, handed down together with the “story” which follows them. Occasionally some of these items, by chance or at the wish of their owner, become part of the museum fund; in such a way their “biography” becomes accessible to the broad public, enriching the cultural identity of the local community.
