“Monika Petrović, a painter from Pula, conceived her individual exhibition through the theme of the landscape and scenery of Istria, thus supporting her painting ethics and presenting her recognizable visual aesthetics. As soon as she concentrated on the landscape it was obvious that it would influence the formation of her individuality as a painter in terms of the theme and the technique by which in art everything seem to be said a long time ago. But no!
The landscape has determined her peculiarity which consequently determined the colours and shades, defined the level of her sensibility and her subtle reflection, assembled into the basic properties of a landscape, compressed into the space specified by the term “locality”. Therefore, locus or place as a distinctive quality of a landscape has become an emotional and creative focus through which a spatial authenticity reflects itself in the most suggestible way.
Here we can recognize a mysterious side of     Istria, capturing visible and invisible sections of space. The painter looks for the spatial nature itself, hidden in the point which accumulates the primordial, at the same time emanating the inner light which illuminates the scenery in a spiritualized manner. Monika conceived her poetics with these elements, so much bound to local and distinct and yet so universal in its ultimate embodiment - the painting”.
