MIRNA KUTLEŠA – exhibiton of paintings (06. 05. – 15. 06.)
Mirna Kutleša was born in Rijeka, in 1980. After finishing the Secondary school for the applied arts and design in Zagreb, she graduated painting in 2004, at the Zagreb Academy of visual arts, in the class of prof. Igor Rončević. She has taken part in various artistic workshops and colonies, and in 2006 she participated in residential programme of the Cité de Arts Internationale in Paris. Except for the various collective and individual exhibitions in Croatia, she was exhibited at the Biennial of Young Artist from Europe and the Mediterranean in Skopje (Macedonia), with Smetnje u komunikaciji (Communication Disturbancess). Her graduation work Self-portraits was honoured by Zagreb Academy of Visual Arts award, and several of her works have been acquired by Erste Foundation and by Rijeka Museum of Modern And Contemporary Art. Author is also a member of the Croatian Community of the Independent Artists, since 2009.
Mirna Kutleša explores the complexity of interactions between the visual reality and the possible readings of its semantic layers. During this process the representation of the material world is preserved as recognizably figural. However, it is not figural in the sense of simplified “emulation of nature” but in the “recognition of the nature of things” which deepens self-recognition. An observer is changed by the comprehension of things seen. The formal, figural layer of the image is nothing but the instrument with which the Mirna Kutleša constructs “the fable”, not in the form of an eloquent narration, but by means of “codified” interplay of associations and symbols. Her starting point may be a scene taken from immediate reality or the proxy image taken from the film frame or literature, but in the background there is always an intriguing idea.
Cicles exhibited in Fritzy Gallery: Communication Disturbancess (2009., watercolours and pencil) and Of Monkeys And Men (2010., oil on canvas).
