“Homage to sailing ships” by Ivan Gianetto Stuparich and Aldina Stuparich Burić
“Homage to sailing ships” is the exhibition of paintings by Ivan Gianetto Stuparich and Aldina Stuparich Burić presented in a gallery space of the Fritzy Palace in Mali Lošinj. Gianetto was a well known self-taught painter from Lošinj; when his death prevented him from finishing the painting of a sailing ship he was working on ten years ago, his daughter Aldina completed it, thus following her father’s steps as a painter. Tempera on wood panel paintings by father and daughter Stuparich, descendants of a reputable family of navigators from Lošinj, are inspired by votive paintings of seamen which used to cover the walls of the Church of Mary’s Annunciation (Annunziata) at Čikat location, presenting a true homage, a tribute to all sailing ships from Lošinj, to their builders and crew and to sailing itself as well.
The organizers of the exhibition are the City of Mali Lošinj and the Lošinj Museum.
