“Croatian Graphics of the 20th century from Solis Collection”, as a joint exhibition of the Cres Museum (within the Adult Education Centre of Mali Lošinj) and the Lošinj Museum, reveals the part of  a private collection of works of art, so far unknown to the public, in the possession of a reputable artist and collector from Cres, Mate Solis.
After the exhibition had initially been presented in the Arsan Palace in Cres in June and July, 2008, the visitors in Mali Lošinj had a chance to see 120 graphics, which was only a small part of Solis’s rich collection of graphics. The graphics presented at the exhibition were selected by the collector himself, who was also engaged in artistic design of the exhibition. It was not an easy task because the works made in a period of almost 100 years comprised 74 authors. Mate Solis participated as an author himself, not in the very exhibition but through the artistic exhibition poster design.
Solis said that his collection had emerged spontaneously, not by any specific system.
He has been collecting for decades, «depending on occasion, possibility or affinity». In this way, in the continuing search for other and different expressions, graphics in all techniques were gathered in one place, including all generations of the Croatian graphic art, from works significant in the history art, such those by Menci Clement Crnčić and Tomislav Krizman from the beginning of the 20th century to the most recent works by Edo Murtić and Vatroslav Kuliš from the end of the 20th century, or more simply in alphabetical order: Angeli Radovani, Artuković, Antun and Dubravka Babić, Bahunek, Baretić, Berber, Biffel, Botteri Dini, Bourek, Bućan, Crnčić, Cvek Jordan, Detoni, Diminić, Dogan, Dolenec, Džamonja, Filakovac, Gecan, Gliha Selan, Gorska Marušić, Grčko, Željko Hegedušić, Herman, Jordan, Kavurić-Kurtović, Kinert, Knifer, Kokotović, Edo Kovačević, Koydl, Krizman, Kuduz, Kuliš, Kulmer, Lacković Croata, Lapuh, Lončar, Lončarić, Lovrenčić, Maretić Diminić, Miše, Mujezinović, Murtić, Nevjestić, Novak, Njerš, Oreb, Petlevski, Picelj, Popović, Prica, Pulitika, Restek, Richter, Senečić, Srnec, Stančić, Stupica, Svečnjak, Šercar, Šiško, Šutej, Tiljak, Tompa, Uzelac, Vaić, Vaništa, Vejzović, Veličković, Veža, Vrkljan and Vrus Murtić.
