Exhibition "Anamnesis - Medical History in the Ancient World"

Anamnesis - Medical History in the Anccient World, exhibition by the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, represents one of the largest collections of Roman medical and pharmaceutical instruments in Europe and shows the archaeological material in a new light.

The theme of the exhibition is healing and different approaches to medical treatment in the ancient (Greek and Roman) world. The disease is an integral part of human life, and the attempts to explain it or resist it can be traced back to the dawn of time. The exhibition emphasizes medical history (anamnesis), an idea developed by ancient doctors, which is of utmost importance today. The exhibition presents the development of ideas concerning health and healing using a multidisciplinary approach in explaning ancient medicine in an interesting and interactive way.

Last year, Lošinj marked 130 years of tourism, of which health tourism is an indispensable part. The Lošinj Museum owns pharmacy furniture and equipment associated with the island`s first pharmacy. The pharmacy was established in 1897 as an "Archducal Court pharmacy" (erzherzogliche Hofapotheke) after Veli Lošinj and Mali Lošinj has been proclaimed the winter health resorts and rehabilitation centers.

We are proud to present the ancient medicine in the Lošinj Museum. Come and discover how Romans treated headaches, did they use anesthesia and how they disinfected the wouds?
