Eugen Varzić "Summoning"

Lošinj Museum opens an solo exhibition of realistic portraits of painter Eugen Varzić at Fritzi Gallery, on April 17 at 7 pm. With a new approach to the old theme, the author presents recent works from the Summoning cycle, showing a spectrum of individuals by establishing new emotional levels with the model and observer. In his enigma of ilusion and reality, facial expressions are displayed in the interpretation of one of the most common art historical motive -  (self)portrait. In the center of the interest is a human figure on large oil on canvas where the process of creation is as exciting as the result. Naturalistic painted faces are visual extensions of close, family or friendly relationships between artists and models. The author's fascination with the image is not a set of allusive physiognomy in the close-up, but personalities, with his roles. Understanding and interdependence between ourselves and the others in these works is a trigger of stories, states and beliefs. A gallery of differences and similarities at the same time.

Eugen Varzić graduated from Academy of fine arts Rijeka (Croatia) in 1999 with a degree in painting. Ever since Varzić has exhibited his work in over a hundred solo exhibitions and group shows both in Croatia and abroad. He has been rewarded for his work several times. He has led several art projects and has participated in international art projects (Italia, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Russia and Slovenia). The works of Eugen Varzić are in many public and private collections throughout Croatia and the world as well as in sacral spaces. He participated in painting workshops conducted by Eloy Morales in Madrid. As one of the five art artists from Croatia, in 2008, his work entitled Eve (Enfer et Paradis) was included in the Dictionary of Fantastic and Contemporary Art by Gerhard Habarte. Occasionally he deals with mosaics, design, illustration, conducting art workshops and fine arts of future students of high art schools. He lives and works in Kufci, Istria, Croatia as a freelance artist.

The exhibition will be open for visitors by May 9, 2018. Fritzi Gallery working hours - from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 1pm and from 6pm to 8pm, Saturdays from 10am to 1am.
