Dražen Trogrlić was formed as an artist during the flourishing of post-modern renewed unveiling of the expressiveness of the artistic matter itself. Resting permanently open to the impulses of real life, the artist expressed himself within his abundant work through numerous mutually different mediums – from paintings, drawings and graphics through sculptures made of stone, metal and glass to design and architecture of the interiors.
Fascinated by challenge of the new, Trogrlić devotes himself entirely in cycles to certain materials/mediums, penetrating into the essence of their substance.
In the last cycle Trogrlić devoted himself to the element of water, working parallelly on water-colours and, not by chance, on objects made of glass.
His «Water Continents» overflow through the whiteness of the paper in explosion of colours. They hover about, float and vibrate, evoking the wide space of primordial ocean at dawn of life. To the movement and instability of water he opposes the glass, its durability and cold persistence. Water and glass - the front and the seamy side of the same transparency in which the light is captured, the proto-element of everything.
