Performance Medea Returns

Lošinj Museum and Hole are pleased to invite you to Medea Returns, a collaborative performance by Colleen Asper and Marika Kandelaki. Many versions of Medea offer an origin story for Cres. When Medea fled from her homeland by ship with Jason and the Argonauts she took her brother Apsyrtus with her. They were pursued by their father Aeetes and when his superior fleet had nearly overtaken them Medea killed her brother, cutting him limb from limb. She threw his dismembered body deep into the sea piece by piece, with Aeetes stopping each time to collect the body parts of his son till finally he fell too far behind to catch up. Each place he buried the rescued limbs of his child became an island. Hole follows up on their 2014 performance of Medea with a sequel in which Medea returns to Cres only to find she is neither in her past nor her future. What will she make of the ruins of history?

Hole has been making holes since 2012. They have performed in New York, NY at The Drawing Center, Bowery Poetry Club, Soloway Gallery, Stellar Projects, Garden Party/Arts, and LILAC. Their work has also been shown in New York, NY at P! and Art in General, where they received a New Commissions grant.
