Underwater archaeological sites of the Lošinj archipelago
The exhibition entitled "Underwater archaeological sites in the Lošinj archipelago" was created as a result of years of systematic survey (reconnaissance) of underwater in the Lošinj archipelago.
The reconnaissance of underwater in the Lošinj-Cres archipelago began in 2008 as a coolaboration between the Lošinj Museum and the Department of Underwater Archaeology of the Croatian Conservation Institute, including the diving centre of the Special Police unit of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia from Mali Lošinj. The project was carried out in the normal course of the Reconnaissance of Kvarner project led by the Department of Underwater Archaeology of the Croatian Conservation Institute; the Croatian Ministry of Culture and in part the Town Mali Lošinj and local sponsors funded project. The systematic survey icluded, apart from the underwater of the islands of Cres and Lošinj, the area with the adjacent islands and reefs (Susak, Unije, Zabodarski, Oruda, Palacol, Vele orjule and a Bik reef). In four years of systematic survey, approximately 20 positions were determined while numerous archaeological materials were found on the 17 of them.
